Does God Really Exist?

Does God Really Exist?

Introduction:
(Psalm 14:1) “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” The answer to the question, “Does God exist?” affects all other questions. If there is a supreme being, then life has inherent purpose and true meaning. As Dr. Brad Harrub, Ph.D., observed, the existence of God determines whether life is guided by divine purpose or blind chance. Why should every rational, thinking person believe in the existence of a supreme being?

Every Creation Must Have a Creator
The universe clearly exists. Where did it come from? Science affirms that it had a beginning; it is not eternal. It could not have created itself out of nothing because something cannot arise from nothing. The laws of thermodynamics demonstrate that matter and energy had an origin. Therefore, the only logical conclusion is that the universe was created.

Since creation exists, it demands a Creator. Paul wrote, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20). The Creator must be eternal, for if He too had a beginning, we would have to explain His origin.

Psalm 102:25–27 declares, “Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; they will all grow old like a garment… But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.” If ever at any time nothing existed, nothing would exist now. Something, therefore, has existed forever—and that something is God.

Every Design Must Have a Designer
Every effect has a cause, and every design points to intelligence. Paintings require painters, poems require poets, and architecture requires architects. The universe reveals intricate design on every level.

Consider the design of the earth. It orbits within the right type of galaxy, at the perfect distance from the right kind of star, with an exact tilt and rotation to sustain life. The atmosphere, water balance, and gravitational forces all exist within narrow limits that make life possible. These conditions cannot be explained by random chance.

The Bible affirms this truth: “For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God” (Hebrews 3:4). “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible… All things were created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16). The only honest conclusion is stated in Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” Isaiah 40:26 adds, “Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things… He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing.”

Life Must Have a Life-Giver
Every scientist knows that life does not arise spontaneously from non-life. The law of biogenesis states that life comes only from pre-existing life of the same kind. Evolutionist Neil Shubin acknowledged this truth: “Every living thing on the planet had parents. Every person you’ve ever known has a biological parent, as does every bird, salamander, or shark you have ever seen. Every living thing sprang from some parental genetic information.”

How then did the first life appear? It could not have come from dead matter. The only possible answer is that life originated through the creative act of God.

Paul declared, “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth… gives to all life, breath, and all things” (Acts 17:24-25). Paul also wrote, “I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things” (1 Timothy 6:13). The very existence of life is continual evidence of God’s sustaining power.

Morality Demands a Moral Lawgiver
Every human society recognizes moral distinctions between right and wrong. Why? Why do people everywhere condemn cruelty, theft, and murder, and praise honesty, compassion, and justice? Even atheists acknowledge that good and evil exist. But where did this moral standard come from?

Some claim morality arises from law, yet history proves otherwise. The Nazi regime made genocide legal in Germany, but legality does not define morality. There must be an absolute standard of right and wrong beyond human opinion. That standard could not have come from matter or chance. Animals have instincts, not moral awareness. Therefore, the source of morality must be a personal, moral Being—God.

The Bible declares, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” (Isaiah 6:3). “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face” (Psalm 89:14). The existence of moral values and human conscience stands as powerful evidence for a moral Creator.

Conclusion
“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). The evidence from creation, design, life, and morality testifies that God exists. This same God has appointed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness (Acts 17:31). The wise will believe, obey, and prepare to meet their Creator.
