He Has Risen

He Has Risen

Introduction:

The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the central events in all of human history.  His resurrection proved that He truly had power over death.  His resurrection is the guarantee of our future resurrection if we will simply believe in Him and obey His gospel.  (I Corinthians 15:20)  Each Christian should be able to say along with Paul the following:  “that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection . . .”   (Philippians 3:10-11)   It is to Christ’s resurrection that we now turn our attention.

Body:

I.             His Resurrection Foretold

·         On the way to Jerusalem   (Matthew 20:17-19)

·         After Peter’s confession   (Mark 8:31-33)

·         Cleansing of the temple   (John 2:18-22)

·         Giving of the Great Commission   Jesus said that His resurrection fulfilled the predictions of the prophets.   (Luke 24:44-48)

II.           The Actual Event

·         Jesus was nailed to a Roman cross on the hill called Golgotha, “the place of the skull.”   (Matthew 27:32-33)

·         He was crucified between two thieves as prophesied by Isaiah.     (Isaiah 53:12, Matthew 27:38)

·         Several things happened when Our Savior died.   (Matthew 27:50-54)

·         Two men, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, took His body and placed it in the tomb.   (John 19:38-42)

·         Three days after His burial the tomb was found empty.   (Luke 24:1-8)

III.         Reasons for His Death and The Importance of His Resurrection

·         He bore our sins on the cross so we could live for righteousness.          (I Peter 2:21-24)

·         By His death, He tasted death for every man.   (Hebrews 2:9)

·         His resurrection completed His role in our salvation.   (Hebrews 12:1-2)

·         His resurrection disarmed principalities and powers.                 (Colossians 2:12, 15)

·         By His resurrection we can be justified.   (Romans 4:25, Romans 8:33-34)

·         His resurrection guarantees a day of judgment will come.   (Acts 17:31)

Conclusion:

That Sunday morning over 1900 years ago gave lost mankind hope. Every soul who places his trust in Him and obeys His gospel will take part in the resurrection of life. Will you be one of those?
